The Celtic sea god Manann decreed the world of faeries and human should forever be separated
when his wife, Fand, fell in love with the Irish hero Cuchulain. Manann had a self-propelled boat
named Wind Sweeper, and a sea horse named Splendorous Mane. Being half-horse and half-fish,
sea horses are symbolic of the elements of earth and water, and are often used in heraldry to
denote laudable actions at sea.
