I'd been a freelance artist as a hobby for just over 10 years when a family
friend inspired me to turn professional full time. However, the name of my studio
was inspired by my beloved husband Clint, and a misquoted song lyric.
My Hubby and I are huge fans of the Scottish folk band 'Silly Wizard'. Before we
started dating, I lived in Oregon while Clint lived in Washington state. One lonely,
rainy Northwest winter's night he composed a letter to me while Silly Wizard's album
Caledonia's Hardy Sons
played softly in the background. The song "Glasgow Peggy" began to play, and in it was
the following verse:
" ..flocks of sheep are aye good enough,
But corn stacks are mickle better -
For they will stand in the drifts o' snow,
While the sheep will die in the wind and the weather."
Instead of "...the wind and the weather", Clint's distracted, romantic mind heard
the lyric as "..The wind in the heather." He knew I love purple heather (next
to the Stargazer lily it's my favorite flower), and he told me that the image of wild
Highland winds blowing through fields of purple heather reminded him so much of my
free spirit that from that moment on I would always be "HeatherWind" to him.
So when it came time to decide on a name for my studio, "HeatherWind" came immediately
to mind. Clint and I celebrated 11 amazing years of marriage on June 12th, and he has
always been my greatest fan and support in this risky endeavor. So to honor him, and
the creative spirit his love inspires in me, I am and will ever remain, 'HeatherWind'.
